Tournament Seeds, Berth on the Line Entering Final Week of League Play

PRINCETON,N.J. -- Penn freshman attacker Zoe Belodeau and Dartmouth sophomore goalie Kiera Vrindten earned the Ivy League’s weekly accolades after each of their teams clinched berths to the 2018 Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. Penn, Dartmouth and Princeton have each earned entry into the postseason event, with two Ivies remaining in contention for the fourth and final spot. 

LEAGUE NOTES
  • No. 10 Penn, No. 18 Princeton and No. 21 Dartmouth are ranked in this week’s IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll. No. 10 Penn, No. 15 Dartmouth and No. 18 Princeton are listed in this week’s Inside Lacrosse Women’s Division I Media Poll. 
  • Penn (5-0), Dartmouth (5-1) and Princeton (4-1) clinched berths to the 2018 Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Tournament last weekend, while Columbia (3-3) and Cornell (2-4) remain in contention for the fourth and final spot. 
  • Columbia, which has already posted a program-record three Ivy League wins this season, can clinch the final postseason berth with a win over Princeton or a Cornell loss at Harvard Saturday. Cornell will earn the final tournament slot with a win at Harvard and a Columbia loss to Princeton. 
  • Columbia would be making its first-ever appearance in the Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, while Cornell is looking for its eighth postseason berth in nine opportunities. 
  • Penn can clinch the No. 1 seed—and the right to host the tournament—with a victory at Princeton Wednesday. The No. 10/10 Quakers and No. 18/18 Tigers will square off at 7 p.m., live on the Ivy League Network and ESPN+. 
  • Penn owns four wins over ranked opposition this season, with their two losses to then-No. 2/4 Maryland, 13-7 on March 22, and then-No. 12/11 Northwestern, 12-11 in overtime on April 1. 
  • Harvard’s Julia Glynn paces the nation with 4.57 goals per game and ranks second with 6.43 points per game this season. Glynn’s 90 points are fifth in NCAA Division I, while her 64 goals sit sixth. 
  • Penn’s Zoe Belodeau has shattered all of the Penn freshman scoring records with 60 points via 31 goals and 29 assists. She is one of three freshmen in NCAA Division I to boast at least 60 points this season—joining Kennesaw State’s Sienna Gore (68) and Loyola Maryland’s Livy Rosenzweig (67)—the younger sister of Penn sophomore Gabby Rosenzweig
  • With 8.50 draw controls per game, Yale’s Izzy Nixon ranks third nationally. 
  • Columbia’s Lindsey Ewertson sits eighth in NCAA Division I with 2.50 caused turnovers per game.
  • The Ivy League continues to be home to the nation’s most efficient scorer—Columbia’s Alexandria Absey (.689 shot percentage). 
  • Penn goalie Mikaila Cheeseman paces all Ivies and ranks 15th in NCAA Division I with a 9.61 goals-against average and 17th with a .493 save percentage. 
  • All six of this week’s games will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network, now available on Apple TV, Roku and the ILN app for Apple and Android devices. OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penn freshman attacker Zoe Belodeau set a season and career high with nine points in the Quakers’ 24-13 victory over Harvard that secured their berth to the 2018 Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. 
 
The Potomac Falls, Md., native matched her season and career best with five goals in the high-scoring affair, with Penn falling just one goal shy of the program record (25) set in 1977. It was just the 10th 20-goal effort in Quaker program history. Belodeau—who also had four assists, nine draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover in the contest—registered an .833 shot percentage, scoring five goals on six shots. 

This is the third Offensive Player of the Week nod for Belodeau, who was previously honored on March 19 and April 9. She has shattered all of Penn’s freshman scoring records with 60 points via 31 goals and 29 assists. Penn has earned 7-of-20 weekly awards this season, including 4-of-10 offensive accolades.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth sophomore goalie Kiera Vrindten posted a .643 save percentage and 3.33 goals-against average in a pair of wins, including a 17-4 rout of Yale that clinched the Big Green’s first Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Tournament berth since 2013. 
 
The Warren, N.J., product allowed just one goal on six shots in the first half of Dartmouth’s 16-5 non-conference victory over Vermont. The sophomore followed up that mid-week performance by conceding four goals on 12 shots in the Big Green’s League contest against Yale. 
 
Vrindten is the fourth-straight goalie to be named Defensive Player of the Week and gives Dartmouth a pair of defensive honors this season. Kathryn Giroux ended a two-year drought with her defensive nod on March 26.
